Morning started out good enough with some fresh baked muffins. Today was a lax day as all we had to do was make it to El Paso, TX. We packed up and headed out around 10am. Just outside of Dragoon, AZ we started seeing billboards advertising “The Thing”. We had time to kill so we stopped.
While I topped off the tank the co-pilot went in to take a look. After I was finished with the gas I went inside. The search for the co-pilot officially begins here. Two laps around the store and a trip to the register to see if they saw him. I asked, “Did you happen to see a man that looks like a stop sign? He is wearing a bright red Hawaiian shirt and bright red shorts. “ She recalled seeing him walk in but that was all. Okay I have been in the shop for ten minutes and can’t find him. So I stop and wait … and here he comes out of the “Employees Only” area. He said he was using the restroom … not the public ones.
So we pay $1 and go to see what “The Thing” is. We walk around the three sheds and look at the museum type displays. After asking yourself, “Why did I pay $1 for this?” you’re finally reminded of that other question, the one that lured you from the interstate. What is the Thing?
We hit the highway and make the four hour trek to El Paso, TX. Let’s just say that four hours straight is a long drive … when you have someone next to you eating Pringles. Maybe it was to long drive but after awhile the opening of the Pringles can, the removal of one chip, to closing of the Pringles can, the return of the can to the cup holder and then the slow eating of said chip … gets really annoying. In four hours he consumed a whole can of Pringles using this method. If I was thinking straight I would have video tapped it.
We arrived in El Paso and El Paso RV Parks did not welcome us with open arms … or closed arms for that fact. There was just for f’n arms for us in El Paso. All RV Parks were full and unattended … no room for us. After an internet search we located one back in New Mexico. So we made the 40 mile trek back to New Mexico.
Got to the park, got all set up, took Chopper for a walk and now it is time to relax.
